The growth of the company

The growth of the company

An in-depth experience in manufacturing, sales and installation of doors and windows helped start a family retail business. Daniel and Pierre Marchand had the desire to make a window that reflected what consumers were looking for at that time. To this end, they teamed up with their younger brother Jean who eventually took charge.

Therefore, Fenplast came into being in 1989. Located in the Delson industrial park, on Montreal’s South Shore, the plant started in a modest 8,000-square-foot facility in which it produced only PVC casement windows. The founders’ objective was to offer specialized retailers in the region high-quality PVC windows that were easy to install and as energy efficient as possible.

In 1994, looking to better respond to market needs, Fenplast invested heavily in state-of-the-art equipment and tools to be able to extrude profiles in accordance with its own specifications.

In January 1996, its infrastructures were expanded a second time in order to meet the ever-increasing sales and the addition of a double-hung and sliding widow system to its product line; bringing the total surface area to more than 30,000 square feet.

A few years later, in 2002, a major two-year investment plan was announced. The first phase would involve tripling floor space. Along with this expansion, large production equipment was added, as well as a paint room with the latest drying equipment in order to better meet the growing demand for coloured windows.

The second phase in this plan involved completing the vertical integration by acquiring equipment for manufacturing insulating glass. As with all Fenplast production equipment, it was state of the art. Product decisions contributed to this process, including those for the Super Spacer® from Edgetech®, as well as the equipment required to assemble the insulated glass units.

From that moment on, Fenplast became one of the very few Canadian manufacturers to manage the entire window manufacturing process, from extrusion to manufacturing the insulated glass units to assembling the actual windows.

In 2004, Jean Marchand joined his brothers Daniel and Pierre Marchand as a shareholder and became the CEO of Pomatek, a company with an excellent reputation that pre-assembled steel doors. Pomatek was gradually integrated into Fenplast, becoming the Group’s Steel Door Division.

In 2011, the sliding door was successfully launched, completing the product offering and succeeding beyond expectations. This door, called the CaloPatio, has redefined the sliding door category, offering a new innovative, mid-priced product made entirely of PVC.

In 2012, in order to increase its system and logistic performance, Fenplast has moved into a new 225,000 square-foot building in Candiac, making it the largest door and window plant in Quebec.

Fenplast relies on a vast network of trained and professional retailers throughout Quebec, New Brunswick and Eastern Ontario. Fenplast’s excellent reputation shone especially through product quality, durability, refined finish and elegance, all due to its never-ending quest for innovation.

Therefore, if the past is any indication, Fenplast’s future is sure to be bright…
