The federal government announced last fall giving $ 2.6 billion over seven years to help homeowners improve the energy efficiency of their homes. Thursday, May 27th, was the launch of the Canada Greener Homes Grant program where grants of up to $ 5,000 will be awarded to homeowners.

The program covers improvements such as replacing an oil-fired boiler with a high-efficiency one or a heat pump, replacing doors and windows that let air in, improving the insulation of the walls, basement or roof, installing a high efficiency water heaters or install solar panels. To receive the subsidy, residents of Quebec must register for the RénoClimat program , while those of Ontario must do so via the government portal.

Reimbursement eligibility criteria:

• All equipment must be purchased in Canada.
• Equipment must be on the admissible equipment list.
• Leave the Energy star labels on the doors and windows until the end of the inspection after renovation.

Important:

• A new window can be fitted into the existing frame of an old window, but replacement of the glass, sash or frameless door is not eligible.
• A maximum of $ 250 will be awarded per gross opening, up to a maximum of $ 5,000.
