To follow up on our article « Your door color: your signature », we present how sidelights and transoms can complement the latter, as well as transform the exterior of your home.

SOME DEFINITIONS

The transom is the glazed part placed at the top of a door or window. These are generally non-operating windows that can have different shapes.

Sidelights are fixed windows installed on either side or only on one side of the door if your facade is more restricted. They come in different formats and are more or less half the width of your front door.

Depending on the impact you want to create, a multitude of combinations can be made between transoms and sidelights to create an inviting entrance. It is important to keep in mind that these should compliment your front door and not compete with it.

COLORS AND EFFECTS

A diversity of colors is possible when the time comes to choose your sidelights. They can be identical to the door or contrasting. The effect created will be different from each other.

In the photos on the left below, the sidelights painted the same color as the door give an illusion of width to the entrance, while in the photos on the right, we see that contrasting sidelights give a rather heightened effect. Of course, the transom also plays a role in this effect.
