Your windows and doors care

[All Tips]

After a long, cold winter, sunrays can barely pass through the dust stuck on your windows and doors but reveal all the accumulated dirt… it’s time for spring cleaning!

To preserve and prolong the beauty of your Fenplast products, below are some useful tips to help you maintain them!

Glass Surfaces

To maintain glass surfaces, we suggest using a Windex® type window cleaner or an eco-friendly “homemade” solution, using a soft cloth or newspaper.

White vinegar – in a 1-litre spray bottle: mix 750 ml of warm water with 250 ml of white vinegar. The smell of the white vinegar will quickly dissipate and keep spiders and flies away from your home!

Rigid PVC Extrusions (Frame and Sash)

  • Regular washing with a mild detergent (all-purpose or glass cleaner), PVC soap or an eco-friendly “homemade” solution will keep the PVC extrusions of your windows beautiful and shiny for many years.
  • For stubborn dirt, below is a list of cleaning products that are recommended and NOT recommended for rigid PVC.

Recommended Products

  • Fantastik®
  • Lestoil®
  • Murphy’s Oil® soap
  • Windex®
  • Non-abrasive cleaner (Vim-Gel type)
  • Any solution of mild soap and water
  • Solution of water and vinegar

Products NOT Recommended

  • All products containing chlorine
  • Detergent that removes grease (degreaser)
  • Strong soaps and detergents containing organic solvents
  • Nail polish remover
  • Furniture polish and cleaner
  • All aggressive organic solvents

Hardware

Clean only with a damp cloth or with compressed air. Avoid using ammonia and vinegar products on metal parts. Spray locks, hinges, lock points and rubber, once a year, with a silicone-based, acetone-free lubricant (ideally a “Jig-A-Loo®” type); this will make operation easier.

Entry Door

To properly clean your steel entry door, first clean with a non-abrasive sponge or use a soft cloth and soapy water, then rinse with clean water. It is also advisable to coat it with a thin layer of automobile wax; it will regain its shine!

Remember to wipe the magnetic weatherstripping with a soft cloth to remove any dust that may scratch the coating on your door.

Then, lubricate the hinges with a silicone-based, acetone-free lubricant (“Jig-A-Loo®” type), twice a year.

Some friendly advice:

  • Cleaning products to be avoided: chlorine, bleach, acetone… in short, all abrasive products as they may damage the protective coating of your products.
  • Avoid pressure cleaning machines as they may damage the finish and cause water infiltration.
  • Allow good air circulation near the glass. Leave curtains, opaque shades or blinds open during the day, as the heat of the rays could damage the PVC, especially if they are installed inside the frame.
  • Check that the drain holes of your Fenplast products are not blocked by dirt or debris.
